The Hardware for the Hardcore !

Was thinking about buying one of your modded PXL's because mine is about done. I was curious do either one of your version 2 or 3 work in Vista?

oops, why did I not get notified of this post ? blah..sorry about that.

Both the ver2 and ver3 work great in Vista no matter what version. I run both the 32 bit and 64 bit version with no problems. Windows 7 Beta in both 32 bit and 64 bit work equally as well.

Been a lot of talk with some users of the ver3 and myself. It seems that it was intended to be used in Joystick mode like a ver2 most of the time with being able to put it in Keystick mode for games with no support. The list of no support is well out growing the games with support list and even games like Half-Life and it's Steam counter parts are making native joystick support such a pain in the ass, most ver3 joystick users are putting the controllers in keystick mode and playing all games with the controller outputting as a keyboard !

It is so nice not to screw with configs, keystick mode really simplifies things, no its not as great feeling as true joystick control in a game that supports it, but the ease of use is awesome.

It's not about feeling Steve. Being forced to use "digital" or "binary" strafe instead of analog strafe it's the same as losing almost half of your aim control... :( completely untolerable. Maybe you personally don't aim with the joystick as much as you could due to the sucky super-stiff PantherXL joy, but if you ever tried a MS 3D Pro or any other short-throw soft joy you know what I'm talking about.

Now, I know joystick support is getting poorer and poorer (not even Quake Live supports it properly, even if it's basically Q3!), but you know what could work? If we had a joy2key-type proggie that emulated proportional control with intermittent keypresses. This way you could have full speed by keeping the key pressed, half speed by pressing and releasing repeatedly in a .5s interval, and so forth. Now *that* would be something to look forward to :)

I'm currently running Windows 7 64 Ultra with my old trusty Ver2 PLX using Rbjoy 8 with proportional joystick control (sorta).
It's one of the many features I've always loved about Rbjoy. On the joystick axis set whatever key/keycombo you want for what ever percentage of throw you want. I use 0-25%, 25-50%, and 50%+ (can also adjust the dead zone). Depending on the game you can use combo keys like W+SHift for run in cod series. I don't beleive Rbjoy is still supported but I was amazed to see it ran in Win7! woohoo!
